Statement on the Suspension of the 2025 TA-AISFF

Register for our Workshop to acquire knowledge on AI storytelling and film making tools

Dear Friends and Supporters,

After careful review of all 902 submissions received for the 2025 Transhumanists Africa
Artificial Intelligence Short Film Festival, we have made the difficult decision to suspend
this year’s event.
While the response to our Call for Entries was extraordinary in terms of reach and enthusiasm, only two of the submissions closely aligned with the festival’s thematic focus: envisioning Africa’s future fifty years ahead through frontier technologies. We recognize
that our expectations—requiring not only storytelling skill but also familiarity with
emerging technologies and speculative thinking—were ambitious for a first edition.
This experience is both humbling and instructive. We accept responsibility for setting a
bar that was too advanced for many emerging filmmakers and for underestimating the
infrastructural and educational gaps that exist across our region.
Nevertheless, our intent was sincere. Over six months, we offered three public
workshops—on Character, Story Development, and AI Workflows—and shared
regular Instagram features highlighting the latest discoveries in science, technology,
and transhumanist thought. These efforts will continue as we regroup and reimagine
how best to cultivate the knowledge and creative capacity needed for this new
storytelling frontier.
We thank every filmmaker, partner, and follower who believed in our vision. This is not
an ending—only a pause for recalibration.
